Great article Lou. The non profit machines are feeding themselves and continue to contribute to the problems they claim to address. The money trail says it all.
Lou your doing your best to expose the ineptitude of the SF ruling class. Your yelling fire fire but the firefighters left. SF is done , put a fork in all that garbage. This shithole city will NOT get better. Soon it will be mad max time…buckle up if your even near the shitty
Just a couple days ago someone from back east coast was saying something similar, and wishing us all to go to Hell due to being fed up with the stuff that flows out of ultra Left elitists like Nancy Pelosi and her many good friends. Many Conservatives are concerned about the Liberal contagion spread out from California. My response it that the cancer is bad, but like many other
things like the 1989 earthquake - viewed through a narrow TV camera lens, it can look a lot worse than it is.
There is no run on the bank with everyone frantic to escape to save their life.
The renters can leave most easily, and they are not, otherwise rents would be crashing.
The homeowners are not rushing to sell, of home values would drop like a stone.
The commercial office buildings and big businesses have to keep paying the rents and taxes.
Well that's the good news.
The bad news is Conventions will discover other locations that are equal or better and if they do
S.F. loses big.
Same for individual and family vacationers/tourists. They love S.F. of old, but they don't love work S.F. where personal safety appear too risky, the mad max world is in your face, and property crimes are treated like an expectation rather than a disturbing rarity.
When people take their family to the Zoo, there is always a chance they may witness something
that mom and dad may be uncomfortable explaining to their kids, but in the streets of San Francisco these days, it makes the Zoo look like the penthouse or presidential suite.
You say the downward spiral will just get worse, and you could be right. Lou and Erika and those of us who appreciate their efforts are investing their time to write about these stories because they know the first step in stopping this decline is to slam on the breaks! Will our friendly Marxist Democrats do that? No. It's more likely they will all order out to Amazon.com for a fiddle so they can practice their Nero routine. The lesson of this story is that the Roman Empire took hundreds of years to decline before Rome fell. And after that? People survived, and today we still have a Roman city that functions as well or better than San Francisco. My point being that we will get through this somehow. It may be ugly, but the city will survive.
My preference is that the Mayor or a new Mayor and these Supervisors or their replacements
and major bureaucrats who run things get together and re-write the future of San Francisco from the city that used to know how, and now doesn't know its butt from a hole in the ground to the city that knows how (an old motto). It can definitely be done, but it won't be done by the people who collectively made all of these terrible decisions that have done so much damage, and cost so many lives.
The cancer has not spread to every house on every block even in the neighborhoods with the worst reputations for drugs, urban campers, and crime. Most places you can go look normal,
and if you didn't know better, you could have a false sense of security. Then there are the entertainment venues; restaurants, bars, tourist attractions, the Giants ballpark and the Warriors Arena. When those tourists come to town to enjoy themselves, they don't want to think they are targets for lifetime criminals, but some will be. I'm not sure how committed to crime fighting DA Brooke Jenkins is. I hear nothing encouraging from Mayor Breed. And Chief Scott seems to do nothing but spout common reassurances. It's old and it's weak.
God Bless San Francisco, Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, and happy whatever else you celebrate to the rest of you!
God bless San Francisco, which sometimes seems like the city that God forgot because we’ve taken to golden calf worship or something else even more blasphemous. But not all of us have and there is still good here. My brother even remarked on a visit that he expected the homeless problem to be worse. Of course I didn’t take him to the tenderloin! He did notice that the streets are empty and Oakland and SF seem rundown. I had to warn my niece about not leaving her backpack and cellphone unguarded. But there are still many beautiful neighborhoods. When I walked through the Sunset I marveled at the beautiful well preserved and maintained homes. God bless you Tony for your positive attitude.
None of us is perfect. We can all make mistakes, particularly when having fun in public with friends, or when shepherding our children. Most people don't get schooled on how to not be viewed as a "mark" by a criminal. How to make sure you are not being followed by someone with criminal intent, and to never lead them to your house. When Ms. Alyxandra got home, she either didn't notice Mr. Rushing lurking nearby, or if she did, she didn't take him to be a threat. It's really disgusting that in this time when so many people want to be fair and friendly to all, and to not be BIGOTS, people like Mr. Rushing deliver such a chilling message that people who look like him value your money more than they value your life. If we are ever going to get past the George Floyd BLM damage to society, first we need to crack down hard one the people who are anti social career criminals.

Yep. Always follow the money.
Excellent article. Very informative.
Best line: The Urban Alchemy will claim Rushing is an “ex-employee” as soon as this article hits.
